OPERATION GAMBIT
Two midget submarines, HMS's X-20 and X-23 were the first vessels off the Normandy beaches. Sailing from Gosport on 2nd June and arriving on 4th June 1944, one and a half miles from shore to mark the limits of the Sword and Juno beaches, primary to guide the British and Canadian amphibious tanks for the D-Day landing on 6th June 1944.
